{"id":209,"date":"2012-04-20T20:32:21","date_gmt":"2012-04-20T20:32:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/laceupwp7.dyndns-server.com:86\/?p=209"},"modified":"2012-05-24T01:54:58","modified_gmt":"2012-05-24T01:54:58","slug":"bio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.keithlanemorrison.com\/?p=209","title":{"rendered":"Keith Morrison \/ Bio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Keith Lane Morrison was born December 29, 1954, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to Wilma and Harold Morrison, both of Enid, Oklahoma.  Keith\u2019s parents both worked for Phillip\u2019s Petroleum Company in his early life.  His mother operated an electron microscope at the Phillip\u2019s Petroleum Company research center, and later taught mathematics at a local high school.  Keith\u2019s father worked in the newly-formed computing department at Phillip\u2019s Petroleum Company throughout his career.  Keith played took up the trumpet at age 9 and, in addition to studying music in school, was active in sports.  In high school, Keith was leader of a Tijuana Brass cover band and played drums in various incarnations of bands which covered songs by Led Zeppelin, Cream, Iron Butterfly, and other psychedelic bands of the era.   He graduated with a BME (Bachelor of Music Education) degree from Phillip\u2019s University in Enid, Oklahoma in 1977.   He continued his postgraduate work on a full scholarship, studying trumpet with Gilbert Johnson (ex principle trumpet of the Philadelphia Symphony) and graduated with an MM (Master\u2019s of Music) degree in 1979.    <\/p>\n<p>While studying at the U of M, Keith began playing with and arranging for Latin bands in the Miami Local scene.  He served as musical director for various of these groups and recorded albums in salsa and Latin pop.   In 1981, he built opened Crossover Recording Studio with partner Carlos Oliva, a commercial 24-track analogue recording facility oriented toward the Miami Latin market.   <\/p>\n<p>In 1985, Keith incorporated Keith Morrison Enterprises, Inc., sold his interest in Crossover Recording, and began free lancing as a recording engineer.  Two years later, he founded Kokopelli Recording Studio, a self-designed multi-format studio oriented toward the international recording market.  This was an era during which Miami was a mecca for dance music.  Keith was involved in that musical trend and had a number of successful dance records with Curb Records, Atlantic Records, and Epic, to name a few.  The Will To Power \u201cDreamin\u2019\u201d single went to number 1 on the Billboard Dance Charts in September of 1987. Keith\u2019s first #1 on the Billboard Pop Charts was the following year with a medley of \u201cBaby I Love Your Way\/Freebird\u201d also by Will to Power on Sony Music\u2019s Epic Records.  <\/p>\n<p>The 90\u2019s found Keith partnering with various client\/producers.  He engineered, mixed and produced a host of gold- and platinum-awarded records in the Anglo and Latin pop markets during this decade.    In 1997, Keith, with his wife Katy, purchased their Redland estate south of Miami and moved the studio to _________ a tropical rural enclave.  <\/p>\n<p>The first decade of the 2000\u2019s saw Keith\u2019s continued involvement in the Latin international pop markets with numerous Grammy nominations including a nomination for Album of the Year for Colombia\u2019s Andres Cepeda  (\u201cDia Tras Dia\u201d, 2009).   <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Keith Lane Morrison was born December 29, 1954, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to Wilma and Harold Morrison, both of Enid, Oklahoma.
